A Preservative From The Sins and Follies Of Childhood and Youth (American Tract Society No. 51)

New York: American Tract Society, 144 Nassau St., ca. 1827-1832.

Wraps, 12mo, 20pp. Alternatively paginated (189)-208. Woodcut vignette on the cover and first page attributed to Alexander Anderson. Printed ca. 1827-1832 based on the address. Very Good+ with mild foxing and soil, corners nudged but square. "Jesus Christ Came Into the World to Save Sinners" printed on rear wrap. One of Watts' prolific moral ditties with a footnote recommending the tract to parents and teachers as the "basis of their daily instructions." The catechism is built on sin as the greatest danger to children, illuminating the "frailties and follies" that breed moral disease. From the "Minor Catechism": Q. Of what were you made? A. Of dust. Q. What doth that teach you? A. to be humble and mindful of death.
