Magic Dots for Little Tots (#4482)

Springfield, MA: Milton Bradley Co., 1906.

Plain paper box with mounted litho lid. Ten pictorial cards with die-cut holes and a packet of “Magic Dots” (colored cardboard circles). Complete with 8 original cards, this kit has two extras and the folding instructions. One card has been “completed,” but the reusability of the cards was among their selling points—they also noted that it allowed children to play with color without the mess of crayon or paint, and that it could even be turned into a game. The large folding instruction sheet doubles as a catalog for other designs available in the series. Not quite “Kindergarten Material,” Bradley marketed these as “Busy Work” intended to be “an educational, pleasing pastime, not taxing the mind. The bright colors of the MAGIC DOTS teach the child the harmony of colors. It is also interesting to the older folks.”
