[Graphic format factory assembly manual for Norge refrigerators]

Borg-Warner Corp., Norge Division illustrated instructions for factory assembly of Norge refrigerator appliances. Undated, likely ca. 1940s: one of the few full product views matches a design for Norge’s Self-D-Froster ads from the period. Black oblong binder with 107 printed leaves on draftsman’s vellum, four manila separators. There are no titles, headings, or running pagination, but the part and operation numbers are marked in a box at the lower corner. The pages of one section (for Part no. 10-1580) are signed “Hautau Eng” in tiny script at the bottom.

As detailed as a graphic novel, the drawings provide multiple perspectives on the tasks, regularly showing bird’s eye views of factory operations. WWII-era Borg-Warner ads highlighted their large female workforce and some of the faceless figures are fairly curvy. It is possible the manual was produced to help train the influx of women workers, but the lack of date or comparable listings in OCLC leaves it to speculation.
