An American how-to for the growing field of commercially available home dyes offered by Howe & Stevens, "Practical Chemists" in Boston. The booklet contains instructions on preparations, which dyes are colorfast, which should not be subjected to heavy soap suds, etc. It also offers aesthetic guidance, like "Hints related to color and complexion," which cites Chevreul's Harmony of Colors (40-41).
