Constructive Work for Schools Without Special Equipment

First Edition. Springfield, Massachusetts: Milton Bradley Company, 1911.

Taupe cloth, small 4to, 124pp. Very Good minus with moderate rubbing to edges and shallow (1/8") loss at the spine ends. Beautiful sepia illustrations and diagrams, including one folding plate.

Newell was the director of drawing education in Massachusetts public schools, where Froebel's philosophies of education became prominent at the end of the 19th century. Milton Bradley published many of the books used in drawing curriculum and used in correlation with subjects such as history, literature and geography. The projects are designed to build on the Froebelian gifts and occupations learned in kindergarten, creating tableus and dioramas using sand tables, blackboard drawings and construction paper models.
