The Hendrie Iron Works originally operated in Burlington, Iowa in the 1850s. Following the Colorado Gold Rush, he founded the Eureka Foundry and Machine Shop in Central City, Colorado, in 1861, becoming the first mining machinery manufacturer east of the Rocky Mountains. Hendrie established in Denver with Bolthoff in the 1880s. The company became known for developing sectionalized equipment that could be transported to remote mining camps and offering custom designs to meet operational needs in rugged terrain. The letters in this volume include custom design schematics as well as pricing and recommendations by W. D. MacGregor, a sales officer based in Durango. Dated June-August 1892, the quantity reflects brisk trade and includes correspondence with the Durango Electric Co and San Juan Smelting & Mining Co.
