1926 Chesterfield County Fair Prize Essay "The Value of Radio in Rural Sections" (Third Place, with ribbon)

4 sheets of loose leaf paper written on one side only, tacked to a thicker construction paper with metal brads. Some sunning, chipping and bumping around the edges, overall well preserved and with the original prize ribbon. There is a name written on the backside of the last page, Sarah Newton, who we presume to be the author. Among the benefits of radio to rural communities given: the ability to receive medical advice, for women to acquire technical education (in cooking), and farmers can keep current on the going rates of their crops and goods. They also write, "the monotony of the evenings can be relieved" with sports and "educating the country people to the higher forms of music." The essay closes, "In a summary of the value of radio to rural communities, I should say it is the greatest educational device the world has ever known."
