Unusual faux-panorama cabinet card photograph of an upstate New York asylum
An unusually long cabinet card with two photographs lined up to create a panoramic effect, 4.5 x 16.75 inches, ca. 1910. Photographer's stamp Thompson, Monticello NY and pencil inscription "Mr Lyons... [Monulk?]" It presents a very large and diverse group of people, including a large contingent of children of different races and ethnicities. Presumed to be a summer picnic photo of children with benefactors at an orphanage or asylum in upstate New York. They appear to be at the edge of a sanded area, likely one of the region's many lakes. A partial pencil inscription on the back The individual expressions of the sitters are quite varied and captivating, a generally curious and engrossing image.
